A STUDY ON THE CHARACTERIZATION OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS IN “LUCA” MOVIE

This study aims to determine how a character is characterized and to analyze the personality type of the main characters in the movie “Luca”. The method used is the documentation method by capturing every scene and dialogue that will be used as data in this study, after that, it is followed by describing each data obtained in order to get a clearer understanding. This study uses the theory of characterization stated by Morner and Rausch (1998) in their book entitled “NTC's Dictionary of Literary Terms” and the theory about personality types stated by Jason Gale (2017) in his book entitled “How to Analyze People Ultimate Guide; Learn Psychology, Body Language, Perception, Types of Personality, and Universal Rules”. This movie has three characters as main characters; Luca Paguro, Alberto Scorfano, and Giulia Marcovando. The results of this study indicate that the three main characters are characterized by only using the second characterization method by the presentation of the characters in action without interpretive comments by the author. The second result shows that Luca Paguro has dominant traits as an introvert, intuitive, feeler, and perceiver. Luca is also dominated by his attitude as a mediator, but he also has the behavior of a protagonist. The second character is Alberto Scorfano who is an extrovert, sensor, thinker, and perceiver, he also often acts as an entrepreneur and is also accompanied by his behavior as a commander. Giulia Marcovaldo is dominant with his attitude as an entertainer and campaigner, she has the characteristics of an extrovert, sensor, feeler, and perceiver like her other two friends. The three main characters are also someone who has the personality of the adventurer
