Abstract

This aimed at finding out the correlation between self-efficacy and speaking skill of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 2 Mengwi. It made use of a correlational research design. The sample consists of 34 students. They were chosen by random sampling technique. In collecting the data of this research, the writer used two instruments which were a speaking test for English speaking skill and a questionnaire for self-efficacy. The total score of self-efficacy was 2,835 and the total score of English-speaking skill was 2,369. The data were analysed by using SPSS 26.0 that consists of the Normality test, the Homogeneity test, the Pearson Product Moment, and the T-testing. According to the result of Pearson Product Moment, it is found that r was 0.597. It lies between 0.400 – 0.600 which was at a moderate level. In conclusion, the correlational research proved that there was a moderate correlation between self-efficacy and English-speaking skill of the seventh-grade students of SMPN 2 Mengwi in the academic year 2021/2022.
