Abstract

The present study that used an ex-post facto research with correlation design was intended to figure out the significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Sukawati in academic year 2021/2022. The research samples consisted of 61 students who were chosen by means of the cluster sampling technique. The data were collected by administering the research instruments in the form of matching cloze procedure tests and short answer tests. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by using pre-requisite analysis: normality and homogeneity test and hypothesis testing: Pearson product-moment correlation and t-test. The result of the normality test showed that the significance value were 0.058 for Vocabulary Mastery and 0.059 for Reading Comprehension which means that the data were normally distributed. Besides, the result of the homogeneity test showed that the significance value was 0.711 for Vocabulary Mastery and Reading Comprehension which means that the data were homogeneously distributed. The next analysis could be done by using Pearson Product-moment correlation and Ttest. The result of the Pearson Product-moment correlation showed that the correlation coefficient was 0.487 which means that there is correlatoion between Vocabulary Mastery and Reading Comprehension in medium level. In addition, the result of the T-test clearly revealed the alternative hypothesis was finally accepted. In other words, the research findings haveconfirmed that there is a significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the tenth-grade students of SMAN 1 Sukawati in academic year 2021/2022.
