THE CORRELATION BETWEEN SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE MASTERY AND DESCRIPTIVE PARAGRAPH WRITING ABILITY OF THE EIGHTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 7 DENPASAR IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2022/2023

In this study, the researcher used an ex-post facto research design to determine the correlation between simple present tense mastery and descriptive paragraph writing ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 7 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023. The present research samples consisted of 40 students of the eighth-grade at SMPN 7 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023. The data were a writing test and paragraph construction test. The obtained data were analyzed using Pearson’s Product-moment correlation and t-test. Data analysis showed that the students’ simple present tense mastery correlated with their writing ability in descriptive paragraph. In summary, the results of the present research conclusively show a significant correlation between simple present tense mastery and descriptive paragraph writing ability of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 7 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023.
