Abstract

This study dealt with two research problems which are (1) What are the characterization of the main characters in the movie After; 2) How are the characterization of the main characters presented in the movie After. The qualitative method was used to analyze the data in this study. In answering the first problem, this study applied the theory proposed by Jones H Edward (1968) and the supporting theory to answer the second problem is from Halliday (1999). The discussion is focused on two main characters, namely Tessa Young and Hardin Scott. The data source was a movie entitled After. The data were collected through library research by watching the movie, reading the script, and note taking. The result of this study shows that there four aspects of characterization of the main characters and also there are context of situation to support the analysis. In showing those aspect, the writer presented the picture or dialogue from the movie. There were four aspects of characterization analyzed by the writer, there are physical appearance, personality, social status and social relationship.
