AN ANALYSIS OF SLANG WORDS FOUND IN AVENGERS: ENDGAME MOVIE

This study aims to (1) identify and describe the types of slang words and (2) to analyze the meaning of slang words found in the movie Avengers: Endgame. The data were collected through observation method. This study applied a qualitative descriptive method, by describing words or phrases of slang words from the film. This study applied the theory proposed by Kipfer and Chapman (2007) to find out the types of slang words and the theory proposed by Leech (1981) to analyze the types of meaning. The results of this study found that there are 53 data of slang words in Avengers: Endgame movie. All types of slang words were found in the collected data, namely 52 primary slang and 1 secondary slang. From seven types of meaning proposed by Leech (1981), there are only five types exist in the slang words. Those are 16 conceptual meanings, 17 social meanings, 2 connotative meanings, 16 affective meanings, and 2 reflection meanings. The two types of meaning which were not found are collocative meaning and thematic meaning.
