Abstract
Abstrak
Masalah kesehatan gigi umum yang terjadi di Indonesia adalah karies gigi. Oleh karena itu pencegahan karies diperlukan untuk menghambat Streptococcus mutans sebagai bakteri penyebab karies gigi. Salah satu upaya pencegahan terhadap karies yaitu dengan menyikat gigi. Bahan alternatif dari bahan minyak esensial dan ekstrak tumbuh-tumbuhan (herbal) dapat dijadikan pilihan sebagai bahan anti bakteri dalam pasta gigi seperti Daun Sirih (Piper betle Linn) dan Siwak (Salvadora persica). Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui mengenai perbedaan efektifitas daya hambat pasta gigi mengandung daun sirih dan siwak terhadap bakteri Streptococcus mutans dengan cara mengukur diameter zona hambatnya. Rancangan penelitian yang akan digunakan adalah eksperimental laboratoris in vitro menggunakan rancangan The Post Test – Only Control Group. Analisis data yang digunakan yaitu uji normalitas dan uji homogenitas dan selanjutnya dilakukan uji One Way Anova. Sampel pada penelitian ini adalah bakteri Streptococcus mutans, dan menggunakan empat (4) kelompok perlakuan yaitu pasta gigi dengan kandungan daun sirih, pasta gigi dengan kandungan siwak, kontrol positif menggunakan chlorhexidine gluconate 2% dan kontrol negatif menggunakan aquades, selanjutnya akan dilakukan pengulangan sebanyak 6 kali pada masingmasing perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata daya hambat pada kelompok kontrol positif sebesar 28,16 termasuk dalam kategori sangat kuat, ratarata daya hambat pada perlakuan daun sirih sebesar 9,66 termasuk kategori sedang dan rata-rata daya hambat pada perlakuan siwak sebesar 9,66 termasuk kategori sedang. Hasil uji One Way Anova memperlihatkan terdapat perbedaan antar kelompok perlakuan pada 4 kelompok. Kesimpulan penelitian ini yaitu pasta gigi mengandung daun sirih (Piper betle Linn) dan pasta gigi mengandung siwak (Salvador persica) memiliki kekuatan yang sama dalam menghambat bakteri Streptococcus mutans yang termasuk dalam kategori sedang (5-10 mm).
Abstract
A common dental health problem that occurs in Indonesia is dental caries. Therefore, caries prevention is needed to inhibit Streptococcus mutans as the bacteria that causes dental caries. One of the efforts to prevent caries is by brushing teeth.. Alternative ingredients from essential oils and plant extracts (herbs) can be chosen as anti-bacterial ingredients in toothpaste such as Betel Leaf (Piper betle Linn) and Siwak (Salvadora persica). The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in the effectiveness of the inhibition of toothpaste containing betel leaf and siwak against Streptococcus mutans bacteria by measuring the diameter of the inhibition zone. The research design that will be used is an experimental in vitro laboratory using The Post Test – Only Control Group design. Analysis of the data used is the normality test and homogeneity test and then the One Way Anova test is carried out. The sample in this study was Streptococcus mutans bacteria, and used four (4) treatment groups, namely toothpaste containing betel leaf, toothpaste containing siwak, positive control using 2% chlorhexidine gluconate and negative control using distilled water, then 6 repetitions were carried out. times for each treatment. The results showed that the average inhibitory power in the positive control group was 28.16 which was included in the very strong category, the average inhibitory power in the betel leaf treatment was 9.66, including the medium category and the average inhibitory power in the miswak treatment was 9 ,66 belongs to the medium category. The results of the One Way Anova test showed that there were differences between the treatment groups in the 4 groups. The conclusion of this study is that toothpaste containing betel leaf (Piper betle Linn) and toothpaste containing siwak (Salvador persica) have the same strength in inhibiting Streptococcus mutans bacteria which are included in the medium category (5-10 mm).
