THE CORRELATION BETWEEN SELF-ESTEEM AND SPEAKING SKILL OF THE TENTH-GRADE STUDENTS OF SMA N 1 GIANYAR IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

The objective of this study was to find out the significant correlation between self-esteem and speaking skill of the tenth-grade students of SMA N 1 Gianyar in academic year 2021/2022. The design was correlational research design. In collecting the data of this research, the writer used two instruments which were speaking test for speaking skill and questionnaire for self-esteem. The researcher conducted the research on October 29th –November 06th 2021. The population was the entire tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Gianyar which consists of 11 classes with 35 until 40 students per each. There were 396 students altogether. There were 36 students who were chosen by applying random sampling technique with lottery system. The data were analyzed by using SPSS 23 version for Windows that consist of Normality test, Homogeneity test, Pearson Product Moment and Ttesting. The hypothesis in this study was significantly accepted. According to the result of Pearson Product Moment, it is found that r was 0.724. It shows that there is significant correlation between self-esteem and speaking skill of the tenth-grade students of SMA N 1 Gianyar in academic year 2021/2022.
