AN ANALYSIS OF CODE SWITCHING ON CINTA LAURA KIEHL IN IWIL NETWORK YOUTUBE CHANNEL VIDEO

This research holds importance in unraveling prevalent code switching types and reasons among young people in the millennial era. With numerous instances of code switching, especially among the youth, this study seeks to provide clarity, helping readers comprehend the types and reasons behind the widespread use of code switching as a language style in the millennial era.The data were taken from Cinta Laura Kiehl in Iwil Network Youtube Channel. There are two problems in this study, the first problem is the types of code switching and the second problem is the reason of code switching. This study used two theories to solve the problems. The first theory is from Poplack (1980) and the second theory is from Grosjean (1981). This study used qualitative method and the data collection was based on observation method by downloading the video, watching the poadcast and reading the script, identifying the utterances that contain code switching in the video and note taking the types of code switching. This study showed 144 code switching found in Cinta Laura Kiehl in Iwil Network Youtube Channel Video. From the data, there are 21 data of Tag Switching, 91 data of Inter-Sentential, 32 data of Intra- Sentential. The reason of code switching found in Cinta Laura Kiehl in Iwil Network Youtube Channel Video are Fill a Linguistics Need for Lexical Item, Set Phrase, Discourse Maker, or Sentence Filler reason 72 data, Continued The Last Language Used reason 52 data, Quote Someone reason 1 data, Specify Address reason 3 data, Qualify Message Amplify or Emphasize reason 2 data, Specify Speaker Involvement reason 7 data, Mark and Emphasize Group Identity reason 4 data, Convey Confidentiality, Anger, and Annoyance reason 4 data, Exclude Someone from Conversation reason 6 data, Change the role of Speaker, Raise Status, Add Authority reason 2 data.
