Abstract
Music concert posters serve as vital visual representations of youth culture, capturing their creative essence. This study examines three Bali music concert posters for each year in 2013 and 2023, to investigate verbal and visual signs in it. Three posters in 2013 were selected from www.infoeventbali.wordpress.com, there are Ubud Village Jazz Festival 2013, Konser Amal Sejuta Tunas Kelapaand “Summer Paradise”Kuta Beach Festival IV. Another data source for music concert posters in 2023 was selected from official Instagram @konserbali, three selected posters there are Kura-Kura Bali International CubMu Jazz Festival 2023, PICA Fest 2023, and Thank God It’s Festival 2023.These six selected posters were chosen because they quite a lot of visual and verbal signs as data sources. Cultural elements and regional characteristics are also included in it and the posters in these two different years have similar concepts even though it was ten years apart. Descriptive qualitative method was used to analyze the data of this thesis and the process of collecting data was conducted by observation method. The data was presented by using formal and informal method, which described the meaning of the verbal and visual signs found in these six posters. This study used Saussure’s framework from Chandler (2007) to find out verbal and non verbal signs. Barthes (1977) was used to delve into denotative and connotative meaning supported by the theory from Cerrato’s (2012) which talks about color theory analysis. The analysis reveals prevalent verbal signs, but profound meanings lie in visual cues, suggesting modern youth's preference for visually engaging content. Interestingly, these posters also integrate indigenous elements and local characteristics, melding youthful expression with cultural context by adding cultural figures and authentic colors reflected the message conveyed on the posters.
