THE CORRELATION BETWEEN MOTIVATION AND READING COMPREHENSION OF THE TENTHGRADE STUDENTS OF SMAN 2 DENPASAR IN ACADEMIC YEAR 2021/2022

The present study which made use of an ex-post facto research with correlation design was intended to figure out the significant correlation between motivation and reading comprehension of the tenth-grade students of SMAN 2 Denpasar in Academic Year 2021/2022. The samples of the research consisted of 80 students which were chosen by means of random sampling method with lottery system. The data were collected through administering the research instruments which were in the form of structured questionnaire and short-answer task. The result of the homogeneity test was 0.260 and the result for the normality of motivation was 0.251 and normality of reading comprehension was 0.120. The data passes the pre-requisite analysis before moving forward to hypothesis testing. The obtained data then were statistically analyzed by using Pearson product moment correlation and t-test. The results of the data analysis clearly revealed the alternative hypothesis was accepted. In other words, the research findings confirmed that there is significant correlation between motivation and reading comprehension of the tenthgrade students of SMAN 2 Denpasar in academic year 2021/2022.
