Abstract

Conflict is the problem in the movie which is related to the character’s psychology, behaviors, and actions. This study aims to investigate the different kinds of conflict experienced by the male main character, David Cotton, in “Ticket to Paradise” movie, and how psychological factors influence his feelings and behaviors. The study employed a qualitative method, which obtained the data by applying observation and note-taking methods. The data were taken from the situations and conversations in the movie and analyzed by conducting the theory of conflict by Nurgiyantoro (1995) and the Psychological Aspect of Human Motivation theory by Bernhardt (1953). The study found that there are internal and external conflicts experienced by David that are influenced by five aspects of human motivation. The study concludes that the movie is dominated by social conflicts and the aspect of social motives arising from diverse cultural backgrounds.
