AN ANALYSIS OF COMPOUND WORDS FOUND IN THE NOVEL “FINALE” BY STEPHANIE GARBER

This research focuses on analyzing the compound words used in the novel Finale. This research aims to know and analyze the types and the structure of compound words found in the novel entitled Finale. This novel was written by Stephanie Garber; the qualitative descriptive analysis method has been used in this research to analyze the data. The observation method has been used to collect the data by applying some techniques, such as; reading, underlining, taking notes, and classifying the compound words based on their types and functions. The theory of McCarthy (2002) is used to analyze the types of compound words and the theory of Lieber (2002) is used to analyze the structure of compound words found in the novel Finale. The result of this research shows 82 data of compound words. It can be divided into 69 data as a compound noun, 12 data as compound adjectives only 1 data as a compound verb. There are 69 or 84,14% compound noun data, 12 or 14,63% compound adjective data, and 1 or 1,21% compound verb data. In this study the compound noun is used dominantly.
