Abstract
The study aimed to determine the significant correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP N 1 Sukawati. The researcher used two research instruments in this study, such as: multiple-choice for the vocabulary mastery and short answer task for the reading comprehension. The population was the eighth-grade students of SMP N 1 Sukawati in Academic Year 2021/2022. The population of this research consist 400 students from the eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Sukawati in academic year 2021/2022. The samples of this study are 40 students which were taken by cluster random sampling technique. The design was ex post facto research design which dealt with the correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. The obtained data were statistically analyzed by using Pre-requisite Analysis and Hypothesis Testing. The result of homogeneity was 0.388. It meant the significance value was higher than 0.05. While the result normality vocabulary mastery test was a figure of 0.240 and it was higher than 0.05. Besides, for reading comprehension, it can be seen on the significance value was 0.215, which was higher than 0.05. The correlation coefficient was 0.652, which means that there is a positive. The next analysis could be done by using Pearson Product-moment correlation and T-test. The result of the Pearson Product-moment correlation showed that and high correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension. Based on the result of this study, it could be stated that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. The result showed that there was significant correlation of vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP N 1 Sukawati in academic year 2021/2022.
