THE ANALYSIS OF CODE MIXING USED BY NIKI ZEFANYA IN NAJWA SHIHAB’S YOUTUBE CHANNEL

The evolution of language within society is inherently diverse and continually expanding. Code-mixing represents a form of language influence that can impact individuals in both direct and indirect ways. As the contemporary era progresses, code-mixing has become increasingly prevalent, particularly in the realm of social media, notably evident in YouTube videos. This study focuses on analyzing the utterances of renowned singer Niki Zefanya in the video titled “Apa adanya Rich Brian dan Niki || Mata Najwa,” featuring Najwa Shihab. The primary objectives are to identify the various types of code mixing employed by Niki Zefanya in her expressions, utilizing Muysken's (2000) theory, and to understand the reasons behind her use of code mixing, employing Hockett's (1958) theory. This qualitative research extracts data from Niki Zefanya's speech in the video, which is subsequently analyzed descriptively, employing an extensive range of words and sentences. The findings reveal three types of code mixing, namely insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. Alternation being the most dominantly utilized by Niki Zefanya, calculated for a total of thirty-one data found. The reasons behind her utilization of code-mixing are attributed to both The Need-Filling Motive and The Prestige Motive. Among these motives, The Need-Filling Motive emerges as the most prevalent, with forty-six instances identified in the data.
