Abstract

Figurative language is a literary technique used by writers and speakers to create vivid and imaginative descriptions by departing from the literal meaning of words songs. This study discusses the analysis of figurative language in Robbie Williams’ figurative language and the type of figurative language used in Robbie Williams’ song. The data source was obtained from the song by Robbie Williams. The research design used in this study is a qualitative method with document or content analysis as the type of research. This thesis describes the types of figurative language found in Robbie Williams’ songs. From the analysis, there are 7 types of figurative language, namely: personification, metaphor, simile, hyperbole, paradox, metonymy, and synecdoche. There are also several theories related to the figurative language used to support the analysis, the theory of meaning by Leech (1974) and the theory of figurative language by Kennedy (1987). 22 forms of figurative language have been selected and analyzed. types of figurative language consist of 3 personification, 2 metaphor, 1 simile, 9 hyperbole, 1 paradox, 4 metonymy, 3 synecdoche. Then the language style is classified and analyzed. This research is expected to contribute to the readers to understand the style of language. This can help English-speaking readers know the implied meaning of the language English. And this is also expected to enrich new English vocabulary for use in everyday conversation.
