Abstract

The purpose of this research is to study the intricacies of verbal and non-verbal communication in the posters of Paragon Hotel Seminyak, aiming to bring out their underlying meaning and significance. Verbal signs include textual elements present on the posters, while Visual signs are manifested through colors and pictures. The research data was taken closely from Instagram, providing a wide array of Paragon Hotel Seminyak posters to analyze. Using a descriptive qualitative method, the research draws on theoretical frameworks including Saussure's semiotics (2007), Barthes' notion of denotation and connotation as described in Barthes (1967), and Wierzbicka's theory of color (1996). The findings from this study reveal a rich communication tapestry embedded in the posters of Paragon Hotel Seminyak, consisting of 36 prominent nonverbal signs alongside 60 spoken signs. These signs, which can be seen in the textual and visual components of the posters, carry nuanced meanings and contribute to the overall message and appeal of the posters.
