Abstract
This study focuses on the analysis of politeness strategy in Luck movie. The study aims to identify the types of politeness strategy and social factors that influence the use of politeness strategy. The descriptive qualitative method was applied in this research. The types of politeness strategy were analyzed using Brown and Levinson's(1978)theory, and the social factor that influences the use of politeness strategy was analyzed using the theory of Holmes (2001). Four types of politeness strategy were found in this study: Bald On-record Strategy, Positive Politeness Strategy, Negative Politeness Strategy, and Off-record Strategy. The results showed that of 31 data, the Positive Politeness Strategy is the most frequent. Meanwhile, four social factors influenced the use of the politeness strategy, namely Participants of the Interaction, Setting or Social Context of the Interaction, Topic of the Interaction, and Functions of the Interaction. The most important social factor influencing politeness strategy is the Setting or social context of the Interaction. These findings show that the politeness strategy is increasingly being used. This research will provide readers with insight into politeness strategy and understanding of the use of politeness strategy in daily communication.
