Abstract

This research focuses on identifying various types of derivational suffixes found in the news "Palestine and Israel conflict" CNN News with a range from October to early November 2023. Suffixes are often attached to the end of words to modify their meaning. They can add new nuances, concepts, or grammatical categories. This research uses two methodologies, including quantitative methods used to calculate percentages, frequencies of various data types, and the derived affix functions found. The second method is descriptive qualitative which is used to provide a detailed and comprehensive explanation for each data found in the data source. In this research it can be concluded that the types of derivational suffixes found in the data source are Adverb Derived from Adjective (48%), Noun Derived from Noun (5%), Noun Derived from Adjective (8%), Noun Derived from Verb (24%), Adjective Derived from Adjective (1%), Adjective Derived from Verb (8%), Adjective Derived from Noun (4%), and Verb Derived from Noun (1%). The analysis also shows that the types of derivational suffixes found in the data source are nominal suffixes (37%), verbal suffixes (1%), adjectival suffixes (13%), and adverbial suffixes (48%).
