Abstract
The tittle of this study is Language Functions Used By The Main Character In Spiderman No Way Home Movie Script. The objectives of the study were to find out the types of language function used in Spiderman No Way Home Movie Script, to describe the reason of using the language function that used in main character Spiderman No Way Home Movie Script. The data source of this study were taken from Spiderman No Way Home Movie Script. The data were collected trough documentation , method and note-taking technique. Whereas qualitative method were used to analyse the data of this thesis. Language Function theory porposed by Jacobson ( 1980 ) Language function was used as the first theory, and second was the theory of language function proposed by Halliday (1973). This study used 40 randomly selected data source on the Spiderman No Way Home Movie Script. The result shows that there are 6 Language Function found in 40 data. The firsrt mostly used is referential function, the second mostly used is emotive function, the third mostlty used is conative function, the fourth mostly used is phatic function, the fifth mostly used is metalingual function, and the last is poetic function. The context of refrential function are to give information about the movie. Emotive function in Spiderman No Way Home Movie Script is express addresser emotion or felling .conative function in Spiderman No Way Home Movie Script is to persuade the addresser to audience. Phatic function is focused on physical and psychological engagement. This function is establishing, prolonging, checking, or discontinuing the linguistic messages in communication. Metalingual function is aimed to refer to the nature of the interaction and focusing attention upon the code, clarify it or renegotiate it. Phatic function is focused on physical and psychological engagement.
