Abstract
This study aims to classify the kinds of directive illocutionary acts and the intended meaning based on the context of the situation used and expressed by the characters. This study used the theory proposed by Searle and Vanderveken (1985) to analyze the kinds of directive illocutionary acts expressed by the characters. It used the theory proposed by Halliday and Hasan (1989) to analyze the intended meaning based on the context of the situation. This research applied the descriptive qualitative method to analyze the research and used mixed formal and informal methods to present the finding data. The result of this research found 199 kinds of directive illocutionary acts that could divided into 54 (27%) Command, 45 (23%) Ask, 31 (16%) Tell, 19 (10%) Forbid, 10 (5%) Beg, 9 (5%) Suggest, 9 (5%) Request, 8 (4%) Recommend, 4 (2%) Warn, 3 (2%) Pray, 3 (2%) Demand, 2 (1%) Permit, and 2 (1%) Urge. The most dominant kind of directive illocutionary acts in this research is Command Directive Illocutionary Acts found in 45 data because the genre of the movie which is mystery, thriller, and action more often used command utterance, and the smallest number of occurrences is Urge and Permit found in 2 data. The intended meaning of directive illocutionary acts was found by intensively looking at all context of situation aspects such as field, tenor, and mode.
