Abstract
The aims of this study are to find out the types of illocutionary speech acts and to analyse the intended meaning of Illocutionary speech acts in "The Guilty" movie. The data was taken from "The Guilty" movie directed by Antoine Fuqua. The observation method isused in collecting data because the data is obtained from the movie. In the analysis of data, descriptive qualitative methods are used in this study. In this study, the methods used to present the findings are informal and formal methods. This study is based on the type theory and the meaning of illocutionary acts proposed by Searle (1979). In addition, the study is also using theory by Halliday and Hassan (1989) to analyse the context of situation. The results showed that there were 31 illocutionary act data foundon all of the characters in the film. There are four types of illocutionary act, namely:representative, commissive, directive, and expressive. Directive is the most widely used type by the characters, there are 19 or about 61.29% of the data found in the movies since the character mostly the speakers ask their listeners to do something. The second type that often appears is representative, there are 5 representative types with a percentage of 16.12%. The third type that often appears is expressive which appears 4times with a percentage of 12.90%. Then the fourth highest is commissive which appears 3 with a percentage of 9.67%. Then declaratively no data of this type was foundwhich was used in this film. The research concluded that speakers have reasons and meanings why they need someone to act through their speech.
