An Analysis of Language Functions Used on Tedx Talks Speeches Videos

This study investigated the language functions used on Tedx Talk videos aiming to find out the types and speakers’ delivery of language function. This study was conducted in order to make people understand about language function that they used in speech for both listener and speaker. This study is based on Jacobson (1966) theory about the language function and used descriptive qualitative method. The researcher used speeches as the data source to find the valid data. There are six language function found on the 4 data source. Meanwhile, there is 1 data source only contains five types of language function. The distribution of language function frequency shows that the referential function became as the most common function that occur on the speech.
