Abstract

This research aims to find out the types of language styles found in the “Instant Family” movie and the influence of language styles found in the “Instant Family” movie. The data for this research were taken from the “Instant Family” movie. The data were collected using qualitative techniques. In analyzing the data, this research used a qualitative descriptive method for presenting data and analysis. The researchers found 30 language style data, 4 types of frozen style (13%), 2 types of formal style (7%), 6 types of consultative (20%), 12 types of casual style (40%), dan 2 types of intimate style (20%). The data were analyzed using the theory of language style from Joos (1976) and Halliday and Hassan's theory of context situation (1985). The results showed that all types of language styles were found in the “Instant Family” movie. The most dominant type of language style found in “Instant Family” is casual style, while the least is formal. All types of language styles were applied to the context of the situation consisting of field is an integral part of what happens, how social action takes place, and how participants communicate what they are doing; tenor is what conveys role structure, and mode is a symbolic organization which relates to the role played by language.
