Abstract

This study aims to find out the type of figurative language found in Navicula song lyrics in Love Bomb (2017) album and to analyze the meaning of figurative language found in Navicula song lyrics Love Bomb (2017) album. The data of this study were taken from Navicula’s 7 selected songs in Love Bomb Album namely “Tomcat”, “Love Bomb”, “Refuse for forget”, "Days of War, Night of Love", “Sail On”, "Harimau Harimau", and “Do It Yourself Is Dead Now We Do It Together”. In conducting the research, descriptive qualitative method was applied to analyze this study. The data were collected through the observation method including listening to the songs, reading the lyrics, note-taking, and classifying the figurative language. The data were also analyzed by using several theories from such as Knickerbocker and Renninger (1963) related to types of figurative language and then Leech (1981) related to the types of meaning. The result shows 37 data out of 8 types of figurative language which covered metaphor, personification, hyperbole, metonymy, synecdoche, paradox, irony, and allusion. However, the meaning of figurative language covered 3 types in total namely connotative, affective, and collocative. The most dominant type of figurative language is hyperbole because the exaggeration emphasizes the dramatic effect in the song lyrics.
