An Analysis of Metaphor in Song Lyrics from The Album Hotel California by Eagles

This study aims to determine the types of metaphors and their meanings in the album Hotel California by Eagles. This study uses qualitative methods in explaining and elaborating the data. The data is taken from a collection of songs that are included in the album Hotel California by Eagles. This study uses the metaphor theory of Lakoff (2003) and the theory of meaning from Leech (1981). The results of this study found that there are three types of metaphors in the album, namely structural metaphors, orientation metaphors, and ontological metaphors. The results of the study found that there are three types of meaning, namely connotative meaning, affective meaning, and social meaning. There are twentythree data analyzed in the lyrics in the album Hotel California by Eagles, where a total of twelve data as structural metaphors, five data as orientation metaphors, and six data as ontological metaphors, which are found in the song lyrics of the album Hotel California by Eagles.
