Abstract

Conjunctions are crucial components of speech which connect words, phrases, clauses, and sentences together. The use of conjunction can be varied in texts with different contexts. This study specifically investigates their usage in Colleen Hoover's novel November 9. The analysis identifies five distinct types of causal conjunctions within the novel: general causal relations, specific causal relations, conditional relations, general reversed causal and respective relations. In instances of general causal relations, the conjunction so indicates cause-andeffect relationship between actions or events. For specific causal relations, the conjunction so introduced a consequence or result that elucidate preceding statement. Conditional relations represented by the conjunction then, switches the polarity between positive and negative statements. General reversed causal used the conjunction because to provide a reason or cause for a previous statement. Finally, Respective relation used the conjunction otherwise to provide a causal relationship between each entity. Each type of causal conjunction has their own contribution to conveying cause-and-effect relationships, consequences, explanations, and reasons throughout the narrative. This study describes the type and functions of causal conjunctions in November 9 and all conjunctions contribute to the unity of the texts under study
