AN ANALYSIS OF ECOCRITICISM ON EXPLOITATION OF NATURE IN THE SHORT MOVIE “MAN” BY STEVE CUTTS

This study focuses on the analysis of ecocriticism and the plot in the short movieMan by Steve Cutts. The research focuses on the relationship between humans andnature, the exploitation of nature reflected in humans, and the impact on the worldand the environment. The study aims to identify types of ecocriticism reflected inthe plot of the Man Short Movie. This study used the descriptive-qualitative methodto find out the types of ecocriticism and plot in the short movie Man. In analyzingthe types of ecocriticism, the writer used theory from Garrad (2004) and analyzedthe plot using theory by Nurgiyantoro (2013). It was found that 27 data pointsshowed this type of ecocriticism. Meanwhile, six types of ecocriticism werereflected in the plot: pollution, wilderness, apocalypse, dwelling, animals, andearth. The movie explores various stages of ecocriticism, with the Earth beingdepicted in the beginning stages, focusing on environmental concerns. Animals arefeatured in the beginning stages, highlighting the relationship between humans andanimals and ecological themes. In the middle stages, the film portrays wildernessareas and wild nature, highlighting the impact of pollution on ecosystems. Themovie also explores themes of human habitation and the built environment,highlighting the relationship between humans and their living spaces withinecological concerns. The findings of this study will teach readers that each shortmovie contains a narrative with a certain meaning and message that the creatorwishes to deliver to the audience.
