Improving Speaking Skill of the Eighth-grade students of SMPN 3 Dawan in Academic Year 2023/2024 Through Inside Outside Circle

Speaking is the delivery of messages, feelings, ideas, and thoughts about certain things that require skills in expressing orally so that the meaning of the conversation can be conveyed properly from the speaker to the listener. The present study aimed to find out whether speaking skill of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 3 Dawan in the Academic Year 2023/2024 can be improved through Inside Outside Circle. This research uses a classroom action research design in 2 cycles. The result of post-tests in each cycle showed that there was significant progressing achievement of the subjects’ speaking skill. The mean score of pre-test that was followed by 28 was 44.42. Then, for the mean score of post-test 1 that was followed by 28 was 65.28, for the post-test 2 was 88.10. Questionnaire was also administered at the end of the last cycle in order to get supporting data. The result of questionnaire showed that most of subjects gave positive responses about the implementation of inside - outside circle technique in improving speaking skill. In conclusion, the present classroom action study proved that speaking skill of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 3 Dawan in academic year 2023/2024 could be improved through inside-outside circle; in addition, the subjects also responded the implementation of inside-outside circle technique positively.
