Abstract

This study was intended to determine the correlation between motivation and reading comprehension by answering the short answer test. The present study made use of an ex-post facto research with a correlation design. The research samples was the eighth-grade students of SMP PGRI 7 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023. the samples of the research were chosen by means of a random sampling method with lottery system so that they were 38 samples who are selected in this research. The data which were needed for the present study were collected through administering questionnaires and short answer test as the research instruments. The collect data were than analyzed by using SPSS 26 pre-requisite analysis; normality and homogeneity test and hypothesis testing: Pearson product-moment correlation and t-test. Based on the statistical analysis, it can be concluded that there was a significant correlation between motivation and reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMP PGRI 7 Denpasar in academic year 2022/2023.
