Abstract
Writing helps students express their ideas on paper or messages in clear and detailed form. This research aimed to determine the correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and the writing ability of the seventh-grade students SMPN 3 Ubud in the academic years 2023-2024. The problem statement of the research was, “Is there any correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their writing ability?” To achieve the purpose of this study. The research instrument of this study was a test, namely vocabulary mastery (in terms of cloze task), and writing ability (in terms of writing paragraph construction test) the population of this research is the seventh-grade students of SMPN 3 Ubud which consists of 58 students, all of them were the sample. Therefore, this research used cluster sampling. The result of the data analysis shows that the student’s vocabulary mastery (in terms of cloze task) is stated in 77.24 of the mean score. In contrast, their writing ability (in terms of writing paragraph construction test) is stated in 79.17 of the mean score. In addition, the analysis showed that the whole data of this study was normal. It means there is a correlation between vocabulary mastery and the writing ability of the students SMPN 3 Ubud in the academic years 2023- 2024.
