Abstract

This study concerns in analyzing Code Switching Found in Boy William‟s YouTube channel entitled “Maudy Ayunda Sempat Merasa Insecure Berada di Stanford”. In conducting this research, the selected methodology is the descriptive qualitative approach. This method entails the analysis of gathered data through the provision of detailed descriptions concerning the two primary issues under examination in this study. The data, comprising verbal expressions found in the associated video illustrating various types of code-switching by speakers, was scrutinized using Poplack‟s theory (1980).Simultaneously; Grosjean‟s theory (1982) was utilized to dissect the reasons behind the utilization of code-switching, addressing the second focal point of the research. The results showed that all the types of code-switching in total 71 data with inter-sentential switching being the most prevalent with 26 data (36,6%), followed by intra-sentential switching with 24 data (33,8%) and tag switching with 21 data (29,5%). Meanwhile, it‟s reasons The total number of occurrences in the study is 71, with the reason of Using a Right Word or Expression show the most frequency with 35 data (49,2%) nearly half of the instances of code switching. While the lower frequency is Raising Your Status with only 5 data (7,1%), Moreover, the data also presented 6 data (8,4%) of Filling a Linguistic Need, 7 data (9,8%) of Marking Group Identity and the last with 18 data (25,3%) of Excluding or Including Someone.
