The Use of L-R-D Strategy to Improve Reading Comprehension of the Eighth-Grade Students of SMPN 4 Kuta Utara in Academic Year 2023/2024

Reading comprehension is the skills or ability to understand what are the information or the text about. The objective of this classroom action research was to figuring out whether or not the reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 4 Kuta Utara could be improved through L-R-D strategy. The subjects of this study were class VIII A which consisted of 32 students. This classroom action research design was conducted in two cycles in which each cycle involved of two sessions. The research instruments that were used in administering the data were: pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. This present study was conducted based on the result of pre-test in the initial reflection especially in recount text which showed that the students’ ability in reading comprehension was still low and they did not know how to identify general information, specific information, textual meaning, and textual reference. The subjects’ mean scores had significant improvement from the pre-test was 58.9, post-test 1 in cycle 1 was 72.8, and posttest 2 in cycle 2 was 81.4. Furthermore, this research showed the positive responses concerning the implementation of L-R-D strategy in improving reading comprehension. The result of the questionnaire showed the percentage of 50.85% strongly agreed, 46.08% agreed, 2.77% undecided, 0.28% disagreed, and 0% strongly disagreed. Based on the results of this study it could be concluded that the reading comprehension of the eighth-grade students of SMPN 4 Kuta Utara could be improved through L-R-D strategy.
