The Correlation Between Motivation and Reading Comprehension of the Seventh-grade Students of SMPN 4 Sukawati in the Academic Year 2023/2024

This study was intended to determine the correlation between motivation and reading comprehension by answering the short answer test. The present study made used of an ex-post facto research with a correlation design. The research sample was the seventh-grade students of SMPN 4 Sukawati in the academic year 2023/2024. The samples of the research consisted of 60 students which were chosen by means of random sampling method with lottery system. The data which were needed for the present study were collected through administering questionnaires and short answer tests as the research instruments. The obtained the data, the researcher used these two research instruments. To collected data were than analyzed by using SPSS 25. The result of the homogeneity test was 0.354 and the result for the normality of was 0.200. The data passes the pre-requisite analysis before moving forward to hypothesis testing. The obtained data then were statistically analyzed by using Pearson product-moment correlation and t-test. Based on the statistical analysis, there was a significant correlation between seventh-grade students of SMPN 4 Sukawati in the academic year 2023/2024.
