AN ANALYSIS OF SLANG WORDS FOUND IN VENOM: LET THERE BE CARNAGE MOVIE

This study focused on slang words in Venom: Let There Be Carnage movie
which was directed by Andy Serkis in 2021. The movie was the continuing story of
the previous film. The figure of a parasite (symbiotic) from outer space gets
matched with the emergence of another symbiotic. This study has two aims (1) to
find out types of slang words that are found in the Venom: Let There Be Carnage
movie; and (2) to analyse the function of slang words. This study used descriptive
qualitative method, by describing the word or phrase of slang words from the movie
in order to give clear analysis on the data according to the theory proposed by Allan
and Burridge (2006). In collecting the data this study used observation method and
this study apply formal and informal method to present the finding. The result of
this study shows that the types and function of slang words were found. In general,
24 occurrences of slang types in Venom: Let There Be Carnage Movie said by the
character. There are three types of imitative, six types of flippant, ten types of fresh
and creative, four types of clipping, and one types of acronyms. And for the
function, there are six functions of slang words were found on the movie, such as
to address, to form the intimate atmosphere, to initiate relax conversation, to show
impression, to show intimacy, to reveal anger and the most function that found and
used by the characters is to address.
