ENGLISH SLANG WORDS USED IN “THE KISSING BOOTH 3” MOVIE

This study aims to find out the types of slang words and analyze the functions of
slang words found in the movie entitled “The Kissing Booth 3”. The data were collected by
observation methods and note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed by applying the
descriptive qualitative method in the form of a table and description. The theory used in this
study is from Allan & Burridge (2006) which is used for analyzing the types and functions
of slang words. The result shows that there are 170 data slang words found in “The Kissing
Booth 3” movie. Those slang words belong to the fresh and creative type 46 data (27,06%),
clipping type 13 data (7,65%), flippant type 13 data (7,65%), acronym type 18 data
(10,59%), and imitative type 80 data (47,05%). For the function of the slang words, there are
7 functions found. Those are to address, to humiliate, to initiate relax conversation, to form
an intimate atmosphere, to express impression, to reveal anger, to show intimacy. The most
dominant function is to initiate relax conversation and to express impression.
