A STUDY OF PLOT AND MAIN CHARACTER TO DELIVER THE MORAL VALUE AS SEEN IN OSBORNE & STEVENSON'S “KUNG FU PANDA 1” MOVIE

This study focuses on the analysis of plot and main character to deliver the moral
value as seen in Osborne & Stevenson’s “Kung Fu Panda 1” Movie. The aims of
this study are to reveal the connection of the plot and the main character of the story
to get a brief explanation about those elements that used to deliver the moral value
of story. It was found that 73 data as the intrinsic elements that found in the Kung
Fu Panda 1 movie. The descriptive qualitative method was applied in this study.
The types of plot and characters were analyzed using DiYanni’s (2000) theory, the
moral value was analyzed using the theory of Linda and Eyre’s (1993), and the
theory of qualitative by Miles, et al. (2014) to support the analysis data. This study
found that the Kung Fu Panda 1 Movie has five types of plot are exposition,
complication, climax, falling action, and resolution; two types of character are
major character and minor character; and two types of moral value are moral values
of being (honesty, courage, peaceofability, self-confidence and potential), and
moral values of giving (loyalty and dependability, respect, love, unselfishness and
sensitivity, kindness and friendliness). The findings show that the mixture of the
plot and the characters can be found in the movie, and they permanently collaborate
the story to show the value of the story. The story develops to the end that is happy
ending, and the value that can be conveyed is that everything starts with a dream
and it would be realized for a reason. In addition, plot, character and moral value
cannot be separated from a literary work, because they are interconnected each
other.
