An Analysis Of Illocutionary Acts Used By Characters In “Sponge On The Run 2020” Movie

The study entitled An Analysis of Illocutionary Acts Used by Characters In
“Sponge On The Run 2020” Movie. This study focuses on type and function of
illocutionary acts. This study applied theory proposed by Searle (1979) and Leech
(1983). The method of collecting data by taking note of the conversations in Sponge
On The Run 2020 movie and the data analysis of this study uses qualitative method.
The result of this analysis shows that directives have 28 utterances (32,55%). It is
followed by representatives 19 utterances (22,09%), expressives 18 utterances
(20,93%), commissive 13 utterances (15,11) and declaratives 8 utterances (9,30%).
As the result of this study, the most dominant type of illocutionary acts in “Sponge
On The Run 2020” Movie is directives since the speakers mostly make the hearer
to do something. Furthermore, based on the result found 4 functions of illocutionary
act. There are competitive, convival, conflictive and collaborative. The function of
illocutionary acts found most in this category was competitive.
