Abstract
This research is entitled "The Implementation Of Directive Illocutionary Act By The Characters In Epic Tails Movie". This study aimed to find out the types of directive illocutionary acts, and the functions of directive illocutionary acts. The data of this research was obtained from Epic Tails Movie. The method of collecting data were used two steps, first the author watched the movie and second recorded the utterances containing directive illocutionary acts. Descriptive qualitative method was used to analyze the data in this study. The author classifies the data based on the types of directive illocutionary acts and then analyzes their functions. In presenting the findings, formal and informal methods are used. The formal method is used to show the percentage of utterances containing directive illocutionary acts by using tables. While the informal method is used to explain the data descriptively through words. There are three types of directive illocutionary acts based on Kreidler's theory (1998:189-192), namely command, asking, and telling. There were 38 directive illocutionary acts found and classified into 13 data or 34,2% are command, 16 data or 41.1% are asking and 9 data or 23.7% are telling. Directive illocutionary acts are interesting to analyze because they are often used in everyday life
