AN ANALYSIS OF CONTEXT OF SITUATION CONTAINING IN HANS CHRISTIAN ANDRESEN’S SHORT STORIES

This study concerns with the analysis of context of situation in Hans Christian Andresen’s short stories. This study’s aims are to fine out the field of context of situation in Hans Christian Andresen short stories, to fine out the tenors of the context of situation in Hans Christian Andresen short stories, and to fine out the mode of the context of situation that used in the Hans Christian Andresen short story such as the Emperor’s New Clothes, the Steadfast Tin Soldier, the Old Oak Thre’s Last Dream, the Princes and the Pea, the Little Mermaid. The data used in this study were taken from five short stories by Hans Christian Andresen. To support the research, this study used the thory by Halliday, (1978) as the main theory to analyse the context of situation. The method applied in presenting the data used formal and informal methods. The result of this study showed various of field, tenor and mode found in the five short stories by Hans Christian Andresen. Most of the short story is dominated by the dialogue between the interactants. The tenor found in the short stories are in the stated of equal and unequal power, frequent and infrequent contact high and low affective involvement. The mode of short stories was in written language
