Abstract

Characters old essential roles in a play, as in a movie. This study is conducted analysis about the characterization of the characters in the Titanic movie in Titanic Movie by James Cameron. The method of this study is Qualitative and the data were collected by using the data technique. It was found that 20 data of character’s category and 47 data of character’s characterization in the “Titanic” movie. The descriptive qualitative method was applied in this study. The categories of characters were analysed using Tarigan’s (1985) theory, and the characterization of characters were analysed using Egri’s (1985) theory. There were three categories of character found, namely: main character, secondary character, and supporting character, and three dimensions of the characterization, namely: sociological, psychological, and physiological. The results showed that of 68 data the majority of the data used were supporting character and psychological dimension. The most dimension used in this movie is a psychological dimension one. This happened because the psychological dimension gives the influence of the character’s personality indirectly
