Abstract
This study is conducted to analyze the type of code-mixing found in Leonardo Edwin's YouTube Channel and find out the reason for code-mixing. A qualitative method is used for this study to analyze the data found in the videos of Leonardo Edwin on his YouTube channel. The data is collected from the utterance uttered by Leonardo Edwin in his videos. The data were analyzed using the theory of types of code-mixing proposed by Muysken (2000). Moreover, the reason for code-mixing using the theory proposed by Hoffman (1991). An act of combining two different languages directly in communication is known as code-mixing. In this study, three types of code-mixing are found based on Muysken's (2000) theory: insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization. The most dominant type found is insertion code-mixing. A multilingual person often speaks using the native and foreign language because they have good knowledge of other languages' vocabulary and the ability to communicate more effectively in a foreign language. Furthermore, seven reasons for code-mixing are found based on Hoffman's (1991) theory: talking about a particular topic, quoting somebody else, being emphatic about something, interjection, repetition used for clarification, expressing group identity or solidarity, and clarifying the speech content for the interlocutor. When communicating, multilingual have reason to do code-mixing in their conversations. On YouTube majority, of the availability of English-language content and the ease with which one can access content from around the globe provide unavoidable communication
