Abstract

Slang words in the “Let’s Be Cops” movie is the focus of this study. There are two aims in this study, the first is to find out and understanding types of slang word used in the “Let’s Be Cops” movie and the second is to find out the functions of slang word used in the “Let’s Be Cops” movie. This study used direct observation method and qualitative method. There are some steps to collect the data such as: watching the movie and comprehensively for some senses, reading the movie script and comprehending the words, phrases and dialogues and identifying the slang words found. There are two theories used in analyzing the data such as the theory of Partridge (1945) to analyzing the type of slang and the theory of Zhou & Fan (2013) to analyzing the function of slang. The result of this study shows the types and function of slang words found in the movie. There are 2 types of slang found. They are workmen’s slang and society slang. Society slang is the most type of slang found in the movie. There are 2 functions of slang found in the movie such as pursuit of self-identification and emotive feeling of the slang users. The result of this study shows that emotive feeling of slang users is the most function of slang found in the movie
