Abstract
This study investigated the types of illocutionary act and context of situation from the characters’ utterances in the movie “Secret Society of Second Born Royals”. The conversation between characters became the main data in this research. The study was also conducted through descriptive qualitative method and analyzed by using two proposed theories namely Searle (1979) and Halliday and Hasan (1989). There were 23 data showed in the research discussion which covered 4 (17%) data of representative, 10 (43%) data of directive, 3 (13%) data of commissive, 5 (22%) data of expressive and 1 (5%) data of declaratives. Moreover, the most dominant type of illocutionary act in this study was directive act since most of the conversation showed the speaker asked for an action from the listener to do something. Meanwhile, declarative was also the least dominant data in this study. The meaning of illocutionary act was also described through the situational context found in the movie
