Analysis of Simple Sentences Structure found in Jakarta Post Website’s Article

This study is entitled “Analysis of Simple Sentences Structure found in Jakarta Post Website’s Article”. The aims of the study are to identify the types of syntactic simple sentences found in the Jakarta Post website’s article and analyze the constituent structure of the types of simple sentences found in the Jakarta Post website’s article using a tree diagram. The data for this study were taken from articles on the Jakarta Post website. The process of collecting data was conducted by library research using documentation methods and note-taking techniques. The data were analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The researcher used the theory of syntactic simple sentences from Aarts (2001:58). The theory from Brown and Miller (1994:17) was used to analyze how the constituent structure of the type of simple sentences using a tree diagram supported the theory from Chomsky (2002) to answer the research problem. The results showed 31 syntactic simple sentences found in Jakarta Post Website Articles, the articles posted on 13th -17th November 2022. There were 29 Declarative sentences and 2 interrogative sentences. Declarative sentences found dominance. However, there were fewer interrogative sentences in e-newspapers than declarative sentences
