Abstract
Morphological analysis as a linguistic source containing correspondence in words’ surface and lexical forms. In the study of morphology, there are free and bound morphemes. Bound morpheme can be divided into two types namely, derivational and inflectional which are usually called as suffixes. This study aims to find the kinds of derivational and inflectional suffixes and their morphological process found in the novel entitled Catharsis written by Anastasia Aemilia. In conducting the research, this study uses a qualitative research method. The data are observed through observation method by reading the novel and underlining the words that are used for the data that used derivational and inflectional suffix, taking note the words sentences and pages written completely, and classifying the data based on kinds of suffixes. There are two proposed theories used to analyze the data namely, Katamba (1991) regarding to the types of derivational and inflectional suffixes and McCarthy (2002) regarding to the morphological process of the suffixes. The result shows 216 derivational suffixes which cover 59 noun formation, 3 verb formation, 65 adjective formation, and 89 adverb formation. Moreover, the inflectional suffixes present 110 plural noun form, 6 third person singular form, 143 past tense form, 9 past participle form, 91 present participle form, 21 possessive form, 19 comparative degree, and 3 superlative degree. The tree diagram also describes the word class that build the new structure after the addition of suffixes
