THE ANALYSIS OF DIRECTIVE SPEECH ACTS IN THE ELLA ENCHANTED MOVIE

This study was entitled The Analysis of Directive Speech Acts in The Ella Enchanted Movie. The focus of this study is to identify the types of directive speech act by the characters in the movie and analyze the function of directive speech act uttered by all characters. This analysis is based on theory by Searle (1969) and Leech (1983). The method used in analyzing the data in this study is a qualitative descriptive method. There are 66 data found in movie relating to the types of directive speech act. Data calculations indicate that commands are the most dominant type of directive used by the characters in the Ella Enchanted movie, which are 30 data (45,5%). The second most dominant data is request, there are 21 data (31,9%). The third is the order, there are 7 data (15,2%). The last suggestion, which only 5 data (7,6%) it is the lowest data found in the movie. Additionally, there are 4 function of directive speech acts found in movie. There are competitive, collaborative, convivial and conflictive function. The results of this study can be helpful to the reader when speak an utterance that contains directive speech act and to understand intention and function
