Abstract

This study analyzed the figurative language used in Wolf Town movie. The movie was analyzed based on the theory proposed by Arp & Perrine (1992) and the supporting theory by Keraf (2009) to identify the kinds of figurative language in the movie and the theory of meaning based on theory proposed by Leech (1981) to analyze the meaning of each figurative language. The study aimed to enhance understanding of the figurative language types and the meaning of figurative language in Wolf Town movie. This study used qualitative method to collect data. The types of figurative found in Wolf Town movie were 10 of 14 types, they were simile, metaphor, apostrophe, symbol, hyperbole/overstatement, irony, sarcasm, repetition, allegory, and cynicism. The highest frequency type of figurative language found in the movie was simile with percentage 35%. Meanwhile, the types of meanings of figurative language found were only 4 out of 7 types, they were conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, reflected meaning, and affective meaning. The most dominant found in Wolf Town movie were 44% of connotative meaning and 28% of reflected meaning.
