THE POLITENESS OF REQUESTING IN “THE PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN ON STRANGER TIDES” MOVIE

Movie is one of the source studies of language that could be analysed from the point of pragmatic. It becomes the main concern of public because it talks about daily life. As social media is able to influence other people to think, feel or behave as expected politeness becomes an important role in human interaction. A speaker should consider the politeness strategies maintain harmony and save the face. Mostly, everyone has their own politeness strategies on requesting to show their politeness in every situation. This research aims to find out: 1) the forms of requesting, 2) types of politeness strategies in “The Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides” movie. Descriptive qualitative research is used as research method for describing data taken from movie. The result shows explicit performative, Hedge- performative, Mood Derivable, Want Statement, Query preparatory, Suggestory formulae are requesting forms used by the characters. Positive politeness, negative politeness, on record, off record strategies with some own are politeness strategies found there. Based on result finding and discussion the characters in the film “Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides” are still polite in asking for something in that situation.
