Abstract
The study aims at figuring out the improvement of reading comprehension in descriptive text of the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Gianyar using Fixup strategy. Fix-up strategy is a strategy of teaching reading in this present study that consist of several steps that is used before, while and at the end of the reading session. The undertaking of the research was mainly based on the preliminary study. The subjects were the tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Gianyar in academic year 2022/2023. There were 30 students, and the research design was classroom action research design. The research was carried out through implementing fix-up strategy in two cycles and the obtained data was analyzed quantitatively from the pre-test, post-test I and post-test II; then qualitatively from the questionnaire. The result showed that there was significant improvement of the subjects’ comprehension in reading descriptive paragraph, pre-cycle (70.1) up to cycle I (74.83); then, it improved in cycle II (80.7). In addition, the questionnaire proved that the subjects’ responses toward the implementation of fix-up strategy was positive during the teaching learning process. In short, the study showed that reading comprehension of tenth grade students of SMK PGRI 1 Gianyar in academic year 2022/2023 can be improved using fix-up strategy.
